About the initiative

Through Mercado Pago, we are committed to promoting financial inclusion in the countries where we operate, expanding digitalization and the population’s access to financial products and services. This means creating the conditions to empower as many people as possible, encouraging them to take control of their financial lives.
Beyond the inclusion associated with the expansion of digital wallets and technology in general, we are committed to promoting Financial Education among our users. Thus, we aim to ensure a better understanding of financial products, concepts, and risks, and support them in making informed and conscious decisions, thereby contributing to their financial well-being.

How we do it

Technology for inclusion

Our business model is based on the use of technology to break down the barriers that prevent financial inclusion for people in the countries where we operate, whether as entrepreneurs or consumers. Leveraging the simplification enabled by digital transformation, we develop financial products and payment solutions designed for those who do not have a bank account because they do not meet the requirements of the traditional banking system.
Through Mercado Pago, we offer digital accounts and payment methods that facilitate access to both basic financial transactions and investment, credit, and insurance products. This enables more and more people and businesses to manage their finances, participate in the formal economy, and become more economically resilient.
In 2025, we launched a personal assistant based on artificial intelligence across all markets, integrated into the Mercado Pago app. Designed to simplify personal budget management, the feature enables users to perform over 60 types of actions—including balance inquiries, payments, transfers, and investment scheduling—via voice or text commands within a conversational interface. Another advancement was the implementation of a cash management tool for merchants, with solutions that integrate sales, inventory, and financial management in Brazil and Mexico. Additionally, we offer products and services with added benefits, such as telemedicine, available to customers who purchase our life and personal accident insurance.

Access to credit

Our credit solutions are developed to simplify access and eliminate red tape for those who want to pay for purchases and services in installments or apply for a personal loan. These are easy-to-access, secure loans, powered by technology and credit analysis systems based on artificial intelligence.

Democratized credit

Regulatory agenda in Brazil

In Brazil, as part of the Central Bank’s (BACEN) regulatory agenda, we established a Financial Education Committee responsible for supporting and monitoring the implementation, reporting, and adherence to the Financial Education Policy, in accordance with Joint Resolution No. 8/2023. In 2025, we advanced internal capacity building through training for employees and leaders.
We also strengthened transparency in communication with customers by reviewing the credit product journey, training customer service teams, and incorporating educational content into digital channels and the AI personal assistant. Additionally, our New Product Governance Process (GPS) ensures that clear and complete information is provided to customers whenever a product is launched, including terms, costs, and associated risks.
For the general public, we provide financial education content on the Mercado Pago Blog and have conducted training sessions for 86 journalists in partnership with leading institutions, with the goal of enhancing the quality of public discourse on personal finance and financial inclusion.

With easy-to-use and accessible tools at their fingertips, many of our new users find themselves for the first time with the opportunity to improve their financial situation and realize the need to learn more about managing money. With this in mind, we invest in financial education initiatives specifically aimed at microentrepreneurs, young people, and historically marginalized groups.

Entrepreneurial and Financial Education

We have developed programs that combine entrepreneurial and financial education, focused on small businesses in Latin America. Through Emprende in Mexico and Ganhaê in Brazil, we strengthen the financial and digital capabilities of women, street vendors, artisans, and entrepreneurs in the creative economy.

Personal Finance for Youth

Conducted in partnership with Junior Achievement, the initiative brings basic financial education concepts to young students in public schools across the region.
